Goldmine Family Restaurant ({*}{*}{*}) in Garland is the mother
lode for fans of home-style cooking. Chicken-fried steak and cornmeal-crusted
catfish are available anytime. Daily lunch specials include outstanding chicken
and dumplings on Saturday; meatloaf, baked chicken and roast beef are some of
the other days' choices. The big menu also offers sandwiches, steaks, shrimp
and a few Tex-Mex options.
Something extra: The spacious restaurant is simply
furnished, but on Saturday nights it offers live entertainment, with Garland
singer Tom Hall performing from 6 to 9 p.m. There is no cover charge.
Price: appetizers $3.95, salads $1.50 to
$5.45, sandwiches $3.95 to $6.45, entrees $6.45 to $10.45, lunch specials $4.95
